Looking to program your 2006 Honda Pilot Key Fob? It’s a straightforward process you can handle right at home, saving you time and money compared to dealership programming. This guide will walk you through each step to easily program your 06 Honda Pilot key fob. Before you begin, ensure you have all your key fobs that you wish to program for your vehicle ready. It’s also important to make sure all doors and the rear hatch or trunk are fully closed during the entire programming procedure. You will only need one remote to initiate the programming sequence, but remember, all remotes must be programmed within the same programming session. Be mindful that each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous one to ensure successful programming.
-
Begin by sitting inside your 2006 Honda Pilot. Make sure all doors and the trunk or hatch are securely closed.
-
Insert your key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position. This is typically marked as “II” on the ignition bezel. You’ll know it’s in the correct position when the dashboard lights illuminate. Within 5 seconds of turning the key to “ON”, press the “Lock” button on the key fob you are using to program for approximately one second, and then release the button.
-
Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position. This is usually marked as “I” on the ignition bezel. At this point, the dashboard lights should turn off.
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 three more times. This means you will turn the key to the “ON” position and press the “Lock” button, then turn it “OFF” a total of four times. Each of these cycles must be completed within 5 seconds of the last.
-
On the fourth turn of the key to the “ON” position, press the “Lock” button on one of your remotes. If you have successfully entered programming mode, you will hear the door locks cycle, making a distinct clunking sound. It’s important to note that the doors will not actually lock or unlock at this stage; the cycling sound simply indicates that the system has entered programming mode. Do not turn the key off after this step.
-
Within 5 seconds of hearing the locks cycle and entering programming mode, and then within 5 seconds of each subsequent remote, take each key fob you wish to program and press the “Lock” button on each one for about a second, then release. Each time you press the “Lock” button on a remote during this step, you should hear the door locks cycle again, confirming that each remote is being programmed. You can program up to 3 remotes in total. This entire step, programming all remotes, must be completed within 10 seconds.
-
Finally, turn the ignition key completely to the “OFF” position and remove the key from the ignition. Open the driver’s side door, step out of your Honda Pilot, and close the door.
Your 06 Honda Pilot key fob should now be successfully programmed. Test each remote to ensure they are all working correctly. If your key fob includes a trunk or hatch release button, remember that you may need to press and hold this button for a few seconds for the trunk or hatch to open or “pop”.
