How to Program a 2018 Ford Key Fob: A Step-by-Step Guide

Programming a new key fob for your 2018 Ford Edge can be simpler than you might think, and you can do it right in your driveway. If you have two already programmed key fobs, along with your new, unprogrammed one, you’re all set for this straightforward DIY procedure. This guide is specifically tailored for 2018 and 2019 Ford Edge models and provides a clear, easy-to-follow method to get your new key fob working quickly.

Here’s how to program your 2018 Ford Key Fob:

  1. Prepare Your Key Fobs: Begin by removing the metal key blade from all of your key fobs – both the programmed ones and the new one.

  2. Position the First Key Fob: Open your center console lid. Take one of your currently working, programmed key fobs and place it face up in the backup slot located at the bottom front of the console. Ensure the unlock button is pointing towards the front of your vehicle and that the fob is pushed as far forward as it can go in its designated space.

  3. First Ignition Press: Press the push-button ignition switch in your Ford Edge once.

  4. Second Ignition Press (after 3 seconds): Wait for 3 seconds, and then press the push-button ignition switch again.

  5. Remove the First Key Fob: Take the first programmed key fob out of the backup slot.

  6. Position the Second Key Fob Quickly: Within 8 seconds of removing the first fob, place your second programmed key fob into the same backup slot in the console. Press the push-button ignition switch.

  7. Third Ignition Press (after 3 seconds): Wait for another 3 seconds, and then press the push-button ignition switch again.

  8. Remove the Second Key Fob: Take the second programmed key fob out of the backup slot.

  9. Program the New Key Fob: Immediately place your new, unprogrammed key fob into the backup slot. Press the push-button ignition switch. You should hear the door locks activate, signaling successful programming.

Once you hear the door locks, the programming of your 2018 Ford key fob is complete. You can now test your new key fob to ensure it’s working correctly. This method offers a convenient way to add a key fob without needing a dealership visit, saving you time and potentially money.
