Cadillac XTS Key Fob Replacement: Your Step-by-Step Guide

Losing or damaging your car key fob can be a frustrating experience. Luckily, replacing the key fob for your Cadillac XTS, specifically for models within the ’13 – ’16 MY range, can be done relatively easily. This guide will walk you through the process of programming a new key fob yourself, saving you time and potentially money compared to dealership services.

To begin the programming procedure for your Cadillac XTS key fob, follow these simple steps:

  1. Access the Programming Pocket:

Start by opening the center console storage area in your Cadillac XTS. Inside, locate the storage tray and open it to access the transmitter pocket. This pocket, designed specifically for key fob programming, is situated within the center console storage area between the driver and front passenger seats.

  2. Prepare for Programming Mode:

Before you can program a new key fob, you need to put your Cadillac XTS into programming mode. To do this, you’ll need to use a recognized, working key fob initially. However, to initiate the programming sequence, ensure the working remote is far away from the vehicle so it cannot be detected. This is crucial to activate the system’s learning mode.

  3. Manual Key Unlock Sequence:

Locate the key lock cylinder on your driver’s door handle and remove the cap covering it. Insert your physical vehicle key into this lock cylinder. Now, turn the key counterclockwise (to the unlock position) five times in quick succession, within a 10-second window. This action signals to the vehicle that you intend to program a new remote.

  4. DIC Confirmation:

After successfully completing the manual key unlock sequence, observe the Driver Information Center (DIC) display. It should display a message confirming that the system is “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, ETC.” This indicates that your Cadillac XTS is now in programming mode and ready to learn a new key fob.

  5. Introduce the New Key Fob:

Take your new, unprogrammed Cadillac XTS key fob and place it directly into the transmitter pocket located in the center console. Ensure the recognized remote key fob is no longer in the vehicle’s vicinity.

  6. Initiate Learning Process:

With the new key fob placed in the transmitter pocket, press the ENGINE START/STOP button in your Cadillac XTS. This action initiates the key fob learning process.

  7. Confirmation of Programming:

Keep an eye on the DIC display. Once the new remote key fob is successfully programmed, the DIC will update to show that it is “ready to program the next remote.” This confirms that the current key fob has been successfully learned by your vehicle’s system.

  8. Finalize and Test:

Remove the newly programmed key fob from the transmitter pocket. Press the “lock” or “unlock” button on the new remote to test if it is working correctly. To program additional key fobs, simply repeat Steps 4–6 with each new remote.

  9. Exit Programming Mode:

Once you have programmed all desired key fobs, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds. This action will exit the programming mode, securing the newly programmed key fobs to your Cadillac XTS.

It’s important to note that during this procedure, any old remotes will be erased and then re-programmed along with the new ones. This ensures that only the key fobs you program during this session will work with your vehicle, enhancing security. By following these steps, you can easily handle your Cadillac Xts Key Fob Replacement and get back on the road quickly.
