DIY Guide: Programming Your Cadillac SRX Key Fob

Lost or need a spare key fob for your Cadillac SRX? Replacing it doesn’t have to be a trip to the dealership and a hefty bill. You can program a new key fob yourself right at home, provided you have a new, unprogrammed key fob. This guide will walk you through the steps to program a new key fob for your Cadillac SRX, even if you don’t have a currently recognized transmitter.

This procedure is specifically for Keyless Access Vehicles and is designed for situations where no existing, programmed key fobs are available. Keep in mind that this feature may not be available in Canada. The entire process should take about 30 minutes, and you’ll need to have all the key fobs you intend to program with you before starting.

Here’s how to program your Cadillac SRX key fob without a recognized transmitter:

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  1. Initiate Programming Mode: Take the vehicle key – the physical key part of your new transmitter – and insert it into the key lock cylinder located on the driver’s side door handle. Turn the key to the unlock position five times in rapid succession, within a 10-second window. After doing this correctly, the Driver Information Center (DIC) screen inside your vehicle will display the message: REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

  2. First 10-Minute Wait: Now, you need to wait patiently. For ten minutes, the DIC will display REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. Do not interrupt this process.

  3. Press Ignition – First Time: After the first ten-minute wait, the DIC message will change to PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN. At this point, press the ignition button once. The DIC screen will revert back to displaying REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

  4. Second 10-Minute Wait: You must repeat the waiting process. Wait for another ten minutes while the DIC shows REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

  5. Press Ignition – Second Time: Once the second ten-minute period is over, the DIC will again display PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN. Press the ignition button once more. The DIC screen will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

  6. Third 10-Minute Wait and System Ready: Repeat the ten-minute wait for the third time as the DIC displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. After this final ten-minute period, all previously programmed key fobs will be deactivated and will no longer work with your Cadillac SRX. This is a normal part of the process. The DIC display should now finally show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.

  7. Place New Transmitter in Pocket: Locate the transmitter pocket. This is found inside your center console. Open the console storage and lift up the storage tray to reveal the transmitter pocket. Place your new Cadillac SRX key fob directly into this pocket.

  8. Final Ignition Press and Programming: With the new transmitter in the pocket, press the ignition button one last time. When the key fob is successfully programmed, the DIC will display a message indicating it’s ready to program the next transmitter if you have more to program.

  9. Verify Programming: Remove the newly programmed key fob from the transmitter pocket. Press the lock or unlock button on the fob to test if it successfully controls your Cadillac SRX’s door locks.

By following these steps, you can easily program a new key fob for your Cadillac SRX and regain full keyless entry functionality without needing professional assistance.
