Getting your car serviced should be a routine and trustworthy process. However, a recent experience with my 2018 Kia Soul 1.6T highlighted a critical issue that every owner of this turbocharged vehicle needs to be aware of, especially when it comes to something as basic as an oil change. Just a few weeks into owning my new Soul, I scheduled its first oil change at a local auto shop I had previously relied on. I made sure to clearly communicate to the service advisor that my car was the 1.6 turbo model, not the standard 1.6 engine. We even discussed the manufacturer’s recommendations for oil viscosity. The owner’s manual specifies 5W-30 as suitable for all ambient temperatures for the turbo engine, with 10W-40 as an alternative for warmer climates. We agreed on using 5W-30 Mobil 1 oil for my service.
