Mercedes Fob Key Not Working After Battery Change? Here’s What To Do

My primary Mercedes key fob stopped working after the battery died and was replaced. I contacted a Mercedes dealership, and they stated that because I waited too long to replace the battery, the key now needs reprogramming, quoting a £100 fee. I’ve tested the key, and it seems to be emitting a signal – the camera trick shows a rapid flashing light. I even tried a reprogramming procedure suggested by a Mercedes specialist and found online:

  1. Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition, then to position 0 and remove.
  2. Within 60 seconds, press and hold the LOCK button.
  3. While holding LOCK, press the UNLOCK button 5 times.
  4. Check functions.
  5. Repeat if necessary.

Unfortunately, my key is completely unresponsive and won’t even turn in the ignition, making this procedure impossible.

Does anyone have advice on how to get my main key working again so I have two functional keys? I also read online that leaving the key in the ignition for 90 minutes might work, which I’m currently trying. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
