Lexus Unveils New Automotive Debuts at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show

Lexus is set to make a significant splash at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, showcasing New Automotive Debuts that highlight the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and exhilarating design. The show, taking place from January 8-22 at the Cobo Center, will feature a redesigned Lexus exhibit offering visitors an immersive brand experience. Key highlights will include the world premiere of the all-new, fifth-generation Lexus LS flagship sedan and the North American debut of the striking UX Concept.

Taking center stage is the highly anticipated 2018 Lexus LS sedan, marking its global debut in Detroit. This new automotive debut is particularly significant as it reconnects the LS with its origins – the very first LS model premiered in Detroit in 1989, simultaneously launching the Lexus brand onto the world stage and revolutionizing the luxury automotive landscape. For nearly three decades, the LS has been synonymous with superior ride quality, exceptional quietness, and unparalleled comfort, setting benchmarks within the premium vehicle segment.

Now, almost three decades later, the 2018 LS emerges with a bold and captivating coupe-like silhouette, skillfully engineered to offer both striking aesthetics and uncompromised interior spaciousness. Underpinning this new automotive debut is the extended version of Lexus’s all-new global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA–L) premium rear-wheel drive platform, shared with the acclaimed LC coupe. This advanced platform promises a more dynamic and engaging driving experience, elevating the LS sedan to new heights of performance and handling.

Following its successful debut at the Paris Motor Show, the Lexus UX Concept will make its first appearance in North America, further emphasizing Lexus’s focus on new automotive debuts and forward-thinking design. This compact crossover concept introduces a fresh perspective, blending the visual appeal and robust stance of an off-roader with a lower center of gravity and a driver-centric, coupe-like seating position.

The UX Concept pushes design boundaries with its seamless integration of exterior and interior elements. The innovative 3-D Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology forges a closer connection between car and driver, enhancing the overall driving experience. Furthermore, the UX Concept showcases the first iteration of the Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept, a revolutionary seat technology designed to enhance driving comfort.

Visitors to the Lexus exhibit will have the opportunity to explore the design story behind the Kinetic Seat Concept, understanding how its unique structure allows the seat cushion and backrest to move dynamically in response to occupant weight and external forces. This kinetic movement aims to provide a more comfortable and supportive driving experience, representing a significant step forward in automotive seating technology.

The expansive 1683 m2 Lexus exhibit will feature a total of 14 vehicles, including the return of the Lexus LC performance coupe. The LC, which was a standout new automotive debut at last year’s Detroit show and is scheduled for release in 2017, exemplifies Lexus’s unwavering commitment to creating vehicles with emotionally resonant designs and exhilarating performance capabilities. The presence of both the all-new LS and the UX Concept underscores Lexus’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive design and technology, solidifying their position as a leader in the luxury automotive market with these exciting new automotive debuts.
