2016 Nissan Altima Key Fob Issues: Need Help with Push Button Start

Hello everyone, I’m encountering a frustrating issue with my 2016 Nissan Altima SV key fob and I’m hoping someone can offer some guidance. Recently, we purchased this vehicle, and it unfortunately only came with a single key fob. Thinking ahead, I decided to get a Tom’s Keys replacement key fob and key combo kit, which included a programmer, as a Christmas gift for my wife.

I carefully followed the programming instructions provided with the Tom’s Keys kit. However, things went south when I inadvertently erased both of our key fobs in the process. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to get at least the original key fob working again, but without any success.

Admitting defeat, I called a locksmith to help resolve the situation. Thankfully, the locksmith was able to reprogram the original key fob and also programmed a new, different aftermarket fob I purchased separately, setting aside the Tom’s Keys kit for now. Unfortunately, Tom’s Keys support wasn’t able to provide much assistance in figuring out what went wrong with their kit.

The locksmith successfully programmed both fobs, and all the buttons are functioning correctly – locking, unlocking, panic button, etc. However, I’m now facing a new problem: I can only start the car by physically pressing the key fob directly against the start button. Prior to attempting to program the new key, I could start the vehicle without having to physically touch the start button with the fob.

I’m really puzzled and unsure why I now have to push the start button with the key fob to start the car. Everything else seems to be working fine, but I really miss the convenience of the original push-button start functionality.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this issue and how I can fix it without having to go to a Nissan dealership? Any advice or help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
