Yesterday, I experienced something truly unusual with my Honda, and I’m hoping someone in the community might have some insight. My wife and I were out driving on a warm day, so the air conditioning was running. We parked, I turned off the ignition, and as usual, I cracked the windows slightly and tilted the sunroof for ventilation.
I then opened the trunk from the inside, we got out of the car, and I locked it by touching the door handle. It locked, though it didn’t beep immediately because the trunk was still open. After we unloaded our things, I closed the trunk, the lights blinked to confirm it was fully locked, and we walked away.
Two hours later, returning to my car, I was completely taken aback. All four windows were fully rolled down! The rear windows were as low as they could go, with only about 3 inches remaining visible. The front windows were in the same position. Initially, I only saw the driver’s side and noticed the open windows there. As we approached, I could see right through the car that all the other windows were down too. This was both shocking and a little concerning.
As I mentioned, we had the A/C on, so the windows were definitely closed when we parked. I only cracked them open a tiny bit afterwards. It’s not like I accidentally pressed the auto-down on both front window switches while cracking them (which is already unlikely), and even if I did, that wouldn’t explain the rear windows. My trim, the Sport 2.0T, doesn’t have auto-down for the rear windows.
This leads me to wonder: is it possible that the Touring trim of Honda vehicles has a feature to remotely open or close windows? The only explanation I can think of is that perhaps all Honda trims are equipped with the wiring for this feature, but only the Touring trim comes with a key fob that has the necessary button. Maybe someone else with a Touring trim Honda parked nearby accidentally pressed their key fob button, and somehow, my car responded. Other than that, I’m at a complete loss. It’s hard to believe the car would just randomly decide to roll down all the windows on its own.
So far, this hasn’t happened again, but now I’m definitely more cautious and a bit paranoid.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their Honda? Any thoughts or explanations would be greatly appreciated!
