Unveiling the New Volvo V60 Cross Country: The Ultimate Swedish Family Estate Car

Volvo Cars has officially introduced the latest addition to its lineup: the rugged Cross Country version of the V60. This new V60 Volvo Cross Country embodies the transformation and innovation that Volvo has championed in recent years, further solidifying its position in the premium automotive market.

Mirroring its sibling, the V60 – launched earlier this year – the V60 Volvo Cross Country epitomizes the versatile Swedish family crossover, designed to seamlessly blend into diverse lifestyles. It takes the essence of the V60 and elevates it with enhanced capabilities for both on and off-road adventures, a hallmark of Volvo’s Cross Country range since its inception in 1997. This evolution allows the V60 Volvo to effortlessly transition from urban environments to more challenging terrains, embodying the true spirit of exploration.

Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, stated, “With the new V60 Volvo Cross Country, we extend the habitat of our Swedish family estate car. We pioneered the Cross Country segment over two decades ago, and this model reinforces our enduring commitment to producing safe, capable, and versatile family vehicles.” This statement underscores Volvo’s heritage and future direction in the automotive industry, particularly within the family car segment.

The V60 Volvo Cross Country distinguishes itself with a ground clearance increased by up to 75mm compared to the standard V60. This significant enhancement is achieved through a specially engineered Cross Country chassis and suspension system, specifically designed to boost the car’s off-road prowess. Standard all-wheel-drive on the new V60 Volvo Cross Country is complemented by Hill Descent Control, Electronic Stability Control, Corner Traction Control, and a dedicated Off-Road driving mode, ensuring confident handling across varied conditions.

Sharing the acclaimed Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform with its 60 and 90 Series counterparts, the V60 Volvo Cross Country benefits from Volvo Cars’ award-winning safety technologies and advanced infotainment system. This platform ensures a high level of refinement and technological integration, consistent with Volvo’s premium brand promise.

The V60 Volvo Cross Country also embraces modern car access models through Volvo Cars’ premium subscription service, Care by Volvo. This service provides an alternative to traditional car ownership, offering access to the V60 Volvo via a convenient monthly flat-fee subscription.

Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars, remarked, “The V60 Volvo Cross Country maintains the refined characteristics of the 60 and 90 Series cars built on our SPA platform. Its enhanced versatility makes it equally comfortable in urban settings and rural landscapes, thanks to an elevated seating position, increased ground clearance, and responsive all-wheel-drive capabilities.” This highlights the versatility and broad appeal of the new model.

Safety remains a paramount concern for Volvo, and the V60 Volvo Cross Country is equipped with Volvo Cars’ City Safety with Autobrake as standard. This system is unique in its ability to recognize pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals, assisting drivers in mitigating potential collisions.

Furthermore, the Pilot Assist system provides support for steering, acceleration, and braking on well-marked roads at speeds up to 80 mph. Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and additional steering assistance systems are also standard. For even greater safety, the optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake is available. These comprehensive safety features position the V60 Volvo Cross Country as one of the safest vehicles available today.

The Sensus Connect infotainment system in the V60 Volvo Cross Country offers seamless integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G connectivity. This ensures drivers remain connected whether navigating city streets or exploring remote countryside. The intuitive tablet-style touchscreen interface consolidates vehicle functions, navigation, connected services, and in-car entertainment applications for ease of use.

Initially, the V60 Volvo Cross Country will be offered with a T5 AWD propulsion system. Volvo has announced that mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will be introduced at a later date, reflecting the brand’s commitment to electrification and sustainable mobility.
