Hellcat Redeye Key Fob Issues and Unexpected Car Problems

Experiencing key fob issues with your Hellcat Redeye can be frustrating, especially when it’s coupled with other car malfunctions. One owner recently encountered a series of problems starting with their key fob not being recognized. Initially, their Dodge Hellcat Redeye wouldn’t start, displaying a “key fob not in vehicle” message. Oddly, pushing the key fob directly against the start button seemed to bypass this issue temporarily.

Suspecting a low battery in the Hellcat Redeye Key Fob, the owner tested a second fob, only to encounter the same problem. This ruled out a simple battery issue. Further complicating matters, the car’s trunk then began to malfunction. After opening the trunk, it refused to stay closed, latching for a mere two seconds before popping back open. This persistent trunk issue occurred even with the key fob in hand, suggesting it wasn’t related to accidentally locking the keys inside.

In an attempt to resolve these electronic gremlins, the owner performed a battery cable reset. However, instead of fixing the key fob and trunk problems, this action introduced a bizarre new issue. Upon restarting, the car seemed to have undergone an identity crisis, displaying a Chrysler logo instead of the expected SRT or Hellcat branding. The XM radio and SRT performance pages also disappeared from the car’s computer system.

Adding another layer to the mystery, the owner had recently installed a dash cam, drawing power from the lighter socket and tapping into a red wire under the cup holders. While acknowledging it might be a coincidence, they suspected a possible link between the dash cam installation and the sudden onset of these electrical problems. Despite the issues, the dash cam was still receiving power, indicating no blown fuse in that particular circuit.

With the key fob, trunk, and now the car’s computer system malfunctioning, a dealership visit seems inevitable. The immediate concern remains finding a way to keep the trunk securely closed. This series of events highlights how seemingly minor key fob issues can sometimes be symptoms of more complex underlying electrical problems in modern vehicles like the Hellcat Redeye.
