How to Start a Cadillac SRX Without a Key Fob

Losing or misplacing your key fob can be a stressful situation, especially when you need to get going. If you drive a Cadillac SRX and find yourself without your key fob, don’t panic. While the key fob is essential for everyday convenience, Cadillac has предусмотрены a backup procedure to get you back on the road. This guide will walk you through the steps on how to start your Cadillac SRX even when your key fob is missing, specifically focusing on programming a new key fob when you don’t have a recognized transmitter.

Step-by-Step Guide to Program a New Key Fob for Cadillac SRX

This procedure is designed for keyless access vehicles and is particularly useful when you’ve purchased a new, unprogrammed key fob. Keep in mind that this process may take approximately 30 minutes, and it’s crucial to have all the transmitters you intend to program with you before starting.

  1. Initiate Programming Mode via Driver Door Lock

First, you’ll need to manually engage the programming sequence using the physical key that comes with your new transmitter. Locate the key lock cylinder on the exterior driver’s side door handle. Insert the key into the lock cylinder. Turn the key to the unlock position five times in quick succession, completing these turns within a 10-second timeframe.

After correctly performing this step, you should observe the Driver Information Center (DIC) displaying the message REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. This indicates that your Cadillac SRX has entered the key fob programming mode.

  2. Wait and Prepare to Press the Ignition Button

Now, you need to wait patiently. For approximately ten minutes, the DIC will continue to display REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT. After this waiting period, the DIC message will change to PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN. Once you see this new message, press and release the ignition button.

The DIC will revert back to displaying REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

  3. Repeat the Wait and Ignition Press Sequence

You must repeat step 2 two additional times. This means you will wait another ten minutes until the DIC prompts you again with PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, and then press the ignition button. Do this a total of three times (including the first time in step 2).

Important Note: After the third repetition of this step, all previously programmed key fobs will be erased from the vehicle’s memory. This is a security measure to ensure that only the key fobs you are currently programming will work with your Cadillac SRX. Don’t be alarmed if your old key fobs stop working at this point; this is expected.

Following the third repetition, the DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1. This confirms that the system is ready to learn the first new transmitter.

  4. Place the New Transmitter in the Designated Pocket

Locate the transmitter pocket within your Cadillac SRX. This pocket is situated inside the center console storage compartment, between the driver and front passenger seats. Open the center console and lift up the storage tray to gain access to the transmitter pocket.

Carefully place your new key fob transmitter into this designated pocket. Ensure it is placed securely within the pocket.

  5. Learn the New Transmitter by Pressing the Ignition

With the new transmitter placed in the pocket, press the ignition button one more time. When the Cadillac SRX successfully learns the new transmitter, the DIC display will indicate that it is ready to program the next transmitter, typically showing a message confirming successful programming and readiness for the next remote.

  6. Remove and Test the Newly Programmed Transmitter

Take the newly programmed transmitter out of the transmitter pocket. To finalize the programming and ensure it has been successful, press either the lock or unlock button on the new transmitter.

Now, test all the functions of your newly programmed key fob, including remote start, lock, unlock, and trunk release, to confirm that it is working correctly with your Cadillac SRX.

By following these steps, you can successfully program a new key fob for your Cadillac SRX without a previously recognized transmitter, getting you back on the road with a functional key fob. Remember to keep your key fobs in a safe and memorable place to avoid future inconveniences.
