Upon your arrival on campus, the Office of Residence Life will provide each resident student with individual room keys and an electronic key fob. This key fob grants you secure access to the exterior doors of your residence hall, ensuring only authorized individuals can enter. It is crucial to understand that safeguarding your key fob and room keys is a shared responsibility. By protecting your access devices, you contribute to the safety and security of all residents within your community.
Losing your key fob or residence hall keys, or lending them to others, poses a significant security risk. If your key fob or keys are lost or misplaced, it is imperative to immediately report this to Campus Safety. Prompt reporting allows for swift action to be taken, minimizing potential security breaches. To request a replacement key fob and room key, you can utilize the campus work order system, a convenient and efficient method for initiating the replacement process. Please be aware that a replacement key fob incurs a cost of $25. Similarly, lost or unreturned keys are subject to a $10 charge. It is important to retain your key fob throughout your residency, unless you withdraw or graduate from the College, at which point it must be returned.
Failing to report a lost or stolen key or key fob puts your fellow students at risk, potentially compromising the overall security of the residence hall. Therefore, responsible handling and immediate reporting of lost access devices are paramount.
Maintaining the security of the residence halls is a collective effort. Propping exterior doors open is a serious breach of security protocol and is strictly prohibited. Individuals found violating this policy will face a $50 fine and may be referred to the Community Standards Council for further disciplinary action. This policy is in place to protect all residents and ensure a safe living environment.
For your personal security, it is essential to keep your residence hall room locked at all times. Under no circumstances should room keys or access devices, including key fobs, be duplicated. All keys must be returned to the Office of Residence Life during room check-out procedures. Lending your residence hall keys to anyone, whether a student or non-student, is strictly forbidden. In the event of a lost residence hall key, the College will issue replacement keys only after the student has paid a $20 replacement fee. Furthermore, depending on the circumstances surrounding lost keys, the College reserves the right to assess additional costs to cover lock changes, ensuring the continued security of all rooms and residents.
